5D Theatre are thrilled to share that Cheryl Prince has received support from the Luton Create Fund to develop a site-responsive performance of AWAKEN at Luton Henge this summer.

Following the magical, mystical, and magnificent script reading of AWAKEN at Luton Henge for International Women’s Day -commissioned by Revoluton Arts- this powerful vision is now being realised as its first full theatrical performance as part of Luton Henge Festival 2026.

🌿 ABOUT THE SHOW

Set across two lifetimes, 1653 and 2023, this special performance will focus on the full 17th-century storyline.

In 1653, in a society ruled by fear and patriarchal domination, Sarah Spindler is a working-class woman with a dangerous gift - she speaks to spirits. When her knowing draws the wrong kind of attention, she is branded a witch and forced to flee. Escaping into the woods with her trusted companion, Sarah must confront a haunting question: can she truly escape her fate - or has destiny already claimed her?

Written in the working-class language of Canting-which predates Cockney-the play gives voice to the long-erased stories of women, the working class, and cunning folk healers.

🎭 This performance continues a powerful collaboration between a female-led creative team:

Director & Actor: Law Ballard
Co-Producer & Performer: Ellie Zeegen
Writer, Actor & Producer: Cheryl Prince

2026 marks an exciting chapter for Cheryl Prince, a Luton-born, working-class theatre maker committed to igniting creative life in her hometown. Following her role as Associate Artist with Revoluton Arts for Speak Low, Rise High which championed working class culture, stories and language featuring a community led verbatim theatre piece, she now brings her work back to its rightful home - the sacred site of Luton Henge.

A community-built chalk stone circle, Luton Henge stands beside the ancient site of Waulud’s Bank, offering a natural amphitheatre for storytelling rooted in history, land, and collective memory.

We are beyond excited for what 5D Theatre has in store for Luton - and this is only the beginning.    More news coming soon… 🌹

Supported by Luton Create Fund. The Luton Create Fund is funded by Luton Arts, Arts Council England, Luton Rising & UK Shared Prosperity Fund, managed by Bedford and Luton Community Foundation.
