Join us for an evening that’s all about the people who make Luton what it is today. Expect stories, theatre and conversations that bring the town’s rich working-class heritage to life.

Cheryl’s creative project takes centre stage, exploring the unique language and culture woven through her own Luton upbringing. She dives into the roots of Cockney in Luton and uncovers Canting, the long-lost working-class language that predates Cockney and inspires her stage play AWAKEN.

Over November and December, Cheryl collaborated with local communities to gather memories, expressions and untold stories that define Luton’s identity. This is your chance to see that exploration in action, for FREE!
What’s happening:

-
Stories from the Music 24 group, St Mary’s Church community and Cheryl’s local networks and family
-
Tales of migration, working lives and the ethics that shaped generations
-
Historical insight into Canting, drawn from Cheryl’s research
-
Conversations on Cockney, slang and working-class identity
-
A short performance celebrating everyday working-class life
Together, it’s a celebration of language, resilience and the cultural power of Luton’s people.
